Registration is Now Open for the 2023 Swim Season!

Thanks for your interest in joining the Montpelier Marlins Swim Team! If you’re between the ages of 5-18, can swim at least one lap across the pool unassisted, and meet the eligibility requirements outlined below, we’d love for you to join us! Whether you’re self-taught or you’ve been swimming for years, you’re guaranteed to have a blast this summer with the Marlins.

About Us

 The Montpelier Marlins swim team exists to promote fun, fitness, safety, and community for swimmers of all abilities. Our team is managed by a paid coaching staff with oversight from a committee of dedicated volunteers and parents.

Registration, Eligibility + Fees

Swim Team Eligibility

To be eligible for the 2023 Montpelier Marlins swim team, each swimmer must:

1.    Be between the ages of 5 -18 years old and be able to swim one lap across the pool unassisted (Swimmers should also understand basic water safety skills and demonstrate the ability to comply with instruction from our coaching staff.)

2.    Be a Montpelier community resident, be registered with the Montpelier Community Association as an extended family member, or be adopted by a family who resides in Montpelier (For more information on our Adopt-a-Swimmer program, see below.)

3.    Complete the application and submit registration fees no later than the first team practice on May 30 (If registration fees are not received by the first practice, swimmers will not be allowed to practice with the team.)

4.    Have at least one parent or guardian attend a mandatory Parent Orientation on either May 30 or June 1 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

5.    Have at least one parent or guardian sign up for five volunteer shifts throughout the season. To sign-up, please use the following link: https://bit.ly/3HHzdnV. Swimmers whose parents have not signed up by the first practice may not be allowed to participate in this season.

Registration Fees

We aim to keep our registration fees affordable to enable as many families to participate as possible. Fees for the 2023 swim season pay for our coaching staff, team meets, and equipment. For the 2023 swim season, registration fees are as follows:

Montpelier Residents + Extended Family

●     1 swimmer — $135 total

●     2 swimmers — $170 total

●     3 swimmers — $200 total

●     4+ swimmers — $230 total

Adopted Swimmers

●     Adopted swimmers must pay the applicable rate above (for the number of children registered), plus an additional one-time $50 fee.

If you are a Montpelier community resident and your swimmer is unable to participate for financial reasons, please contact us via email at montpeliermarlins@gmail.com. A very limited number of scholarships are available.

Tryouts for New Swimmers

All new swimmers (those who have not been on the team previously) must complete a tryout. New swimmers need to be able to swim across the pool at least once. Tryouts will be held on Tuesday, May 30, and Thursday, June 1 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Montpelier Community Pool. If you’re unsure whether your swimmer is ready to join the team, don’t worry! Register your swimmer and join us at the pool for tryouts! Our coaching staff will assess their ability on-site.

Adopt-A-Swimmer Program

If you are an adopted swimmer, be sure to review the program policy in the “Attachments” section below. Our adopted swimmer policy has changed this year, so if you are a host family or an adopted swimmer, please review this document in its entirety. In addition to completing the registration process online, you will need to submit a signed copy of the policy to montpeliermarlins@gmail.com.

2023 Practice Schedule

All swimmers should attend at least two practices each week through the duration of the season, and ideally as many as possible. During the registration process, you will be asked to identify whether your child plans to attend primarily morning or evening practices.

 Morning Practices

Morning practices begin on June 12 and run through July 14 for swimmers who are not participating in special meets.

 Monday – Thursday

  • 8:30 – 9:30a — Swimmers, ages 13+
  • 9:30 – 10:30a — Swimmers, ages 5-12


  • 9:00 – 10:00a — Swimmers of all ages**

**Team breakfast will take place at each Friday morning practice at the cost of $1 cash per swimmer.

 Evening Practices

Tuesday and Thursday evening practices begin May 30. Wednesday evening practices will be offered at the beginning of the season only for the weeks of June 7 – June 14.

  • 5:15 – 6:15p – Swimmers, ages 5-12
  • 6:00 – 7:00p – Swimmers 13+


  • 5:15 – 6:30p – Swimmers, ages 5-12
  • 6:15 – 7:00p – Swimmers 13+

*Wednesday evening practices will be offered for the weeks of June 7 through June 14.

Our Coaching Team

Jair Jackson, Head Coach

Jair swam with the Marlins for eleven years prior to becoming an assistant coach last year. He is currently a collegiate swimmer at St.Mary’s College of Maryland as well as a seven-time All-Star, 2021 League Champion in the Boys 50m Butterfly, and is the team/pool record holder for the Boys 50m Breaststroke.

Sarah Mima, Assistant Coach

Sarah is no stranger to the Marlins and began swimming with the team at age 12. At 16, she broke the Montpelier team record for the 15-18 Girls 50m Butterfly, as well as the Girls 200 Medley Relay. She currently attends the University of Notre Dame.

CC Kirages, Assistant Coach

CC has been swimming with the Marlins for the past ten seasons. She was also an instructor for the Marlins’ developmental swimmer program for the 2022 swim season. Currently, she swims year-round with the Patuxent Aquatics Club, and will also be working as a lifeguard at the Montpelier Community Pool this summer. In the fall, CC will be a high school senior at Mount De Sales Academy.
