1st Annual Montpelier 5K Run/Walk | Results!

Update:  The results are in… scroll to the bottom to see which of your neighbors came in 1st place!  Then visit the Montpelier Facebook page to view photos from the event.

The 1st Annual MCA Fun Run/Walk took place on Saturday, August 31. Over 100 people, young and old, running, walking and riding in strollers participated. There were even a few four-legged runners! The event kicked off with a short dash for the under 6 crowd and a mile run for the older kids. The main event began at 8:45 with a send-off by Lucas Arzayus singing the National Anthem. Montpelier’s own, Michael Roberts won the event – in his bare feet!

Many thanks to Felipe Arzayus, Mark Middlebusher and their committee who put many hours into organizing and planning the event. Paul Buehler provided the music and sound system. Refreshments were available after the run. Many neighbors provided assistance along the route giving direction to runners and handing out water. The Prince George’s County police supported the event with six officers present. The event was professionally timed by the Prince George’s Running Club. Results are posted on the Montpelier website.

Spread the word to your neighbors. Next year’s event will take place late in the summer.

Attention all neighborhood runners, joggers and walkers!

The Montpelier Community Association invites you to come out and enjoy our community first 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, August 31st, 2013.  For runners and walkers, this will be a great opportunity to see our magnificent neighborhood, and be exposed to the beauty of our neighboring Mansion grounds from a different perspective.

All Montpelier resident 15 and over are welcome, and a special KidsRun along the new paths by the community pool will be held for those 14 and younger.

Volunteers Needed

For those wishing to participate without running/walking, we need your help! Approximately 40 volunteers will contribute to the event’s success by

  • organizing the Kids’ FunRun participants,
  • setting up cones and directional signs for the regular run/walk participants,
  • setting up and managing the refreshments table, and
  • providing cups of water at points throughout the race and at the finish line.

Volunteering will be a great way to reconnect with old and new neighbors and will make the event run more smoothly and be more enjoyable for everyone involved. If you are able to volunteer, please contact by Felipe Arzayus by email. or at 301-604-3915.

Course & Start Times

The course for the 5K run/walk will start and end at the Montpelier community pool parking lot.

5K-course

The Run/Walk will circumvent the Montpelier neighborhood and cross over the Montpelier Mansion grounds

The course for the 5K run/walk will start and end at the Montpelier community pool parking lot. The path will follow Oxwell Lane and onto Montpelier Drive. Participants will run/walk almost to 197, enter the Montpelier Mansion ground trail just before the intersection. They will cross the Montpelier Mansion grounds and continue back into the neighborhood where the trail exits onto Mt. Pleasant Road. The race will continue along Mt. Pleasant up to the intersection with Briardale Lane. From there, participants will use the new path between the ten

nis and basketball courts to complete the run/walk and cross the finish link back in the pool parking lot.

The total distance will be 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles. Over the length of the course, participants will traverse paved roads (shoulders) and trails.

All festivities will start at 8:30 AM. There will be different starts with the sequence as follow:

  • 8:30 AM: 11 – 14 year olds Kids FunRun
  • 8:35 AM: 7 – 10 year olds Kids FunRun
  • 8:40 AM: 4 – 6 year olds Kids FunRun
  • 8:45 AM 5K Run starts (15 year old and up)
  • 8:50 AM 5K Walk starts (all ages)

Professionally Timed

The run will be professionally timed by the Prince Georges County Road Runners club, with results available shortly after the race on our community website. Award results will also be posted on our community website and Facebook page.
