Montpelier musician releases first music video

Montpelier residents recently learned that is a music artist living among them.

Luke Roberts, who lives on Ivystone Lane, has been playing music since he was five years old in a house full of music and musicians. He played a lot in church starting just before middle school. He started to teach himself how to play piano when his dad got his mom a grand piano for their 25th wedding anniversary.

The video for Luke’s first release, Her Heart’s Lips Have Kissed My Soul, was released by IvyStoneRecords on Youtube on May 3, 2013.  His brother Michael helped with the filming, and Luke did the editing and recording for the song, while a good friend assisted with some mastering on the vocal track.

Together with his brothers Daniel and Michael, Luke started a 3 piece rock group, Band of Brothers. Their sound is influenced by artists like Coldplay, U2, Eric Johnson, and the Police. Since taking the name Band of Brothers in 2007, the group has won Grammy tickets and $18,000 as the 1st place winner in the international online songwriting competition YOBISing, has been featured on 98 ROCKs Noise in the Basement, and has played at venues including Recher Theatre, The 9:30 Club, and Bourbon Street.

“In our music we try to create something that reaches people where they are and expresses what we all experience in life: joy, pain, doubt, and love, among many other things,” said Luke.

The band’s website is at www.mybandofbrothers.com, and fans can also follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mybob3.

Besides producing music videos, Luke studied mechanical engineering at UMBC in the Meyerhoff Scholarship program. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Maryland College Park where is he is helping developing a novel mechanical bird, or ornithopter, platform.  (You can watch a test flight at this link, including an attack on the artificial bird by a very real hawk.)
