Security-No Solicitation

Hi Montpelier Residents,
Since there has recently been an increase in vendor solicitation in Montpelier, the Security Committee would like to offer reminders and new ideas to help you protect your home and your privacy.  The Prince George’s County Police strongly recommend that you only open your door to people you know.  Use a door peep hole or a nearby window to ID the person at your door.  Definitely do not open the door after dark.  All solicitors are required to carry a Prince George’s County permit or a statement from the MCA Board.  As you courteously inform the solicitor of the community and Prince George’s County Police “no soliciting” policy, try to get an ID of the individual.  I compare this person to myself to help remember details.  If he won’t leave, try to take a picture of him on your cell phone or camera.  If he still won’t leave, call the police @ 911.  Try to get a description of his car and his license plate, too.  We have signs attached to our Neighborhood Signs that say, “NO SOLICITING OR HANDBILLS W/O APPROVAL FROM MCA OR PG COUNTY POLICE”.  These signs are near the intersections of Rte 197 and Montpelier Drive*, Claxton and Montpelier Drive*, Muirkirk @ Cedarbrook Lane, and Muirkirk @ Mt. Pleasant Drive.  Do not hesitate to call 911.  We also ask you to help alert you fellow residents by sending a group email to montpelier@…. or to your Security Committee.  Please print a picture of the “no soliciting sign” and keep it at your front door to show solicitors.  There is a county fine for this offense.

*Signs at Montpelier Drive @ Rte 197 and Claxton to be purchased and put up ASAP.
Security Committee, Richard Mason
